Can I Get an Amen is a traditional Old-Time folk band that hails from Chicago and West Virginia. Growing up in West Virginia, where traditional American folk music animated the hills, its members studied the tradition with masters at such players’ festivals as the Cliff Top String Band Festival. Now living in Chicago, they travel the Midwest and East Coast for festivals and corporate events.
Can I Get an Amen and its members have been featured at such traditional music festivals as the Galax Fiddler’s Convention, Cliff Top String Band Festival, and the Vandalia Gathering. They have also been featured at many corporate events held around Chicago, at landmark venues such as Soldier Field, the Sears Tower, and the Arts Club of Chicago.
Can I Get an Amen is a vital part of Chicago’s Folk Community, as its members regularly work at the Old Town School of Folk Music and in the vibrant music scene as part of the Old Lazarus’ Harp collective. They can be found playing at Uncommon Ground, FitzGerald’s, Schubas, the Red Line Tap, Martyrs,’ the Irish American Heritage Center, and the University of Chicago. Can I Get an Amen offers authentic rusticity, interpreted with a modern twist, as they play traditional Folk Standards, Country Music, and Jazz.
